Thanks for the book link Michael. I do think that the two cases are somewhat
different in effect, as the library access doesn't need a judge and has no
review or appeal. It is just a part and parcel of the 911 overreaction "We
don't need no stinkin' rights" legislation (as is the monitoring of net
traffic and tracking of search engine terms), while the book purchase
information still requires a judge to agree that it is needed (not that many
judges tend to reject such requests) and you might get lucky and find a book
dealer that knows how to say no although it is worth noting that dealing
with big book dealers is probably safer. It is also a reason why I
anticipate a lot of pressure to shut-down operations like PayPal in the
medium term.
