The articles by Anthony Flew (ISLAM'S WAR AGAINST THE WEST: Can it Abide a
Secular State), Roy Brown (LESSONS FOR A SMALL PLANET: Islam, Too, Must
Change), Abdel Maseeh (THE ISLAMIC CONCEPT OF PEACE; Can the West Accept
It?), Syed Kamran Mirza (WHY CRITICAL SCRUTINY OF ISLAM IS AN UTMOST
NECESSITY: Can Reason Blunt Fanaticism?), Ibn al Rawandi ( ISLAM AND
ARMAGEDDON: Looking Behind the Myths) and Pervez Hoodbhoy (MUSLIMS AND
THE WEST AFTER SEPTEMBER 11: Both Sides Must Face Grim Truths) were all
included in a special edition (spring 2002 - vol. 22 #2) of FREE INQUIRY magazine, the
magazine of the Council for Secular Humanism. You can find it online at:
http://www.secularhumanism.org/
If you want to know who they are, just go to the page and click on "International
Academy of Humanism".
Then count the Nobel Laureate scientists, authors and philosophy professors.
If you want to know their principles, just click on "Introduction to Secular Humanism",
then once you get there, click on "The Affirmations of Humanism" and, if you have a little
time to read when you're finished, back up one page from the Affirmations and click on
"A Secular Humanist Declaration".
They are NOT primarily a Muslim-critiquing page, instead critiquing ALL religions.
The articles on women came from the International Society for Islamic
Secularization (ISIS), to be found at:
http://www.secularislam.org/
and they ARE primarily concerned with Islamic fundamentalism.
