Dear Fellows,
As many of you know, I was banned from the IRC server yesterday for a period
of 24 Hours. I was banned by an unelected volunteer called Hermit, who acts
as an unpaid helper to our Church's sponsor and owner of the list, David.
Hermit has repeatedly abused the powers given to him by David.
It is now time to reign him in and establish firm controls over just who can
do what within the CoV and the BBS.
Hermit, In my opinion is a usurper. He pretends to power and authority in
our clergyless church. His megalomania - once a cutsie foible I could laugh
at - is damaging the church. He has abused powers given to him to fight of
IRC hackers and abusive channel spammers by using these tools on fellow
members who have done no more that disagree with him.
It is really very simple. I derive immense pleasure from this list and from
the IRC channel. I have been a member of this congregation for over a year.
I have no misbehaved in any way, and as there are no rules - I cannot have
broken any.
Despite this clean record, a years participation on the list and a loyal
early adopter of the IRC channel, I have been banned again.
The reason: In Hermit's opinion I was rude and lame. He later stated that
people get banned if he does "not enjoy [their] company" [ see
http://www.limbicnutrition.com/hermit.htm#company ]. Hermit wants to ban me
for good. I think it would be a grossly unfair injustice if he is allowed to
get away with this. I also think you would be insane to allow this sort of
behaviour to continue in the CoV.
Hermit is technically competent to be trusted with IRC administration, but
he is certainly not intellectually or psychologically competent to hold such
power without fixed restraint. He is deeply emotionally attached to the
discussions which take place in IRC and the list and is seemingly incapable
of disinterest and balance.
For those reasons alone he needs to be subjected to strict rules of
conduct - as indeed ought any person trusted with powers intended to protect
the collective good.
I have uploaded a transcript of the relevant logs so members of this list
can see what they can expect if they take Hermit's displeasure. It is quite
an eye opener.
They page can be accessed here: http://limbicnutrition.com/hermit.htm . The
page is temporary.
IRC has become an integral part of my enjoyment of the CoV. I expect to be
unbanned immediately as I do not recognise the Hermit's authority or
justification for banning me. I am appealing to David - and to the other
senior members of the CoV to address this wrong.
Regards
Limbic
