[Elvensage most sagely asked]
I have to admit I like you Hermit. But this is going a bit too far don't ya think? What is the point of putting a poll like this up other than to get the pleasure of knowing that you have most everyone’s support on this issue? Or is it just to bring Joe down a bit?
I hope no offense is taken by this post, but just be the bigger man. I mean, I understand that this has a lot to do with politics and such, but there is a lot more to this than just that. You know it. I know it. Everyone on this forum knows it. Do not allow yourself to step down to the same level as he is, by throwing insults and putting someone down, if you are wishing to prove yourself.

Joe Dees is claiming general support. From this, it appears as if Joe Dees imagines that the list approves of his attitude and assertions - perhaps because surely, if he were wrong, he thinks that members would call him on his assertions. He also seems to think that he has made some kind of point - at least he continues to crow about having done so.
Having read the replies, I don't think this is the case at all. But if Joe Dees does think this, and if I am correct about the list, then I would appreciate people saying so in no uncertain terms. Simply because, it is possible that if others tell Joe Dees that his claims are false and his behavior indefensible, he might change his behavior.
Notice that a relatively large percentage of the list members appear to consider that taking action to prevent abuse of fellow members or their mailboxes smacks of censorship. So presumably they think that their voices should count. And indeed, Virus has previously functioned by means of group consensus correcting error. Yet I do not see members raising their voices to "correct" Joe Dees. Which might mean that there is nothing to correct, or that people are intimidated (which would defeat one of our major purposes), or perhaps they consider abusive behavior acceptable. Then again, people know that I am competent to defend myself and the CoV - as abusively as necessary. And have. But I have never had to defend the list or myself from an ongoing barrage from somebody who used to be a friend, who taught me a lot, who is certainly one of the longest standing members of the congregation and who used to be greatly respected by me. And I'm not sure that I would wish to and am quite sure that I should not have to.
Of course, I might be completely wrong in all of this. I don't think so, but it is possible. So if I am wrong, here is the opportunity to say so. And while Joe Dees might attempt to tell me what he thinks the CoV is thinking in their silence, I'd far rather hear it from the congregation myself. In my shoes, wouldn't you?
Regards
Hermit
