virus: I have tried...

[Hermit]
Oh shit. Joes McPees pulls out the infamous "mother card". Hermit is not
just "unAmerican" and a nasty foreign kind of thing, he is also against
apple pie and down on mothers. Pity Joe wasted his very best epithets on a
non-starter.

While seeking our approbation for his "noble self-sacrifice", Joe McPees
described his mother as suffering from dementia. I paraphrased this when I
referred to his drooling mother as his "maternal nutcase." Joe didn't even
realize that there was an "insult" to take umbrage from, until our sweet,
ever smiling Casey caught, as he usually does, the wrong end of the stick,
and pointed it out to the insult recognition challenged Joe McPees.

[Casey]
"Drooling mother"? You paraphrased the term dementia by using the words
"maternal nutcase"?

Hermit, you really are a mean-spirited, non-compassionate, silly little
fellow. But, several of us on the list who know you have already come up
with that assesment.

By the way, thanks for pointing out that I'm a sweet, ever smiling person.
I am. It was so kind of you to proffer that to the congregation.

[Hermit]
Is Joe really suggesting that he imagines that there is a substantive
difference between dementia and nut cases? In which case, perhaps he needs a
refresher. "Dementia is usually defined as global impairment of cognitive
function that interferes with normal activities. Although impaired short-
and long-term memory are typical of dementia, deficits in other cognitive
functions in addition to memory (e.g., abstract thinking, judgment, speech,
coordination, planning or organization) are required for the diagnosis of
dementia. Alzheimer's disease accounts for most cases of dementia in North
America (50-85%), with an additional 10-20% attributed to vascular
("multi-infarct") dementia."

psychologist might say, stark staring nuts.

[Casey]
I doubt Joe was suggesting that there is a difference. But, your choice of
words displays to the Church of Virus your true self.

[Hermit]
Joe needs to wake up. He isn't about to receive an apology, not only because
there wasn't an insult, only a paraphrase of his own words, but also because
he does not deserve one. People who flame and call others names cannot
expect not to be subject to reciprocity

[Casey]
Your choice of words to paraphrase the condition of Joe's mom shows your
lack of compassion. Why paraphrase when you need not? I think dementia was
a better word to use, and better described to those on the list her
condition.

And, in case you've forgotten, you've flamed and called others names
yourself. Or do you now suffer from memory loss? Perhaps, it's the onset
of a psychological condition. Oh, pardon me, I don't have the credentials
to qualify that statement. So, I'll retract it.

Regards,
Casey
