04:00 PM CDT. TULSA OK- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...BROKEN ARROW...SAND
SPRINGS AND TULSA 400 PM CDT WED AUG 20 2003 ...HEAT ADVISORY HAS BEEN
ISSUED FOR TULSA COUNTY TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY... OVERNIGHT LOW
TEMPERATURES WILL ONLY FALL TO NEAR 80 DEGREES IN THE TULSA METRO AREA
TONIGHT PROVIDING LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE HEAT. DANGEROUS HEAT INDICES
WILL CONTINUE ON THURSDAY WITH READINGS IN THE 105 TO 108 DEGREE RANGE.
A HEAT ADVISORY IS NORMALLY ISSUED WHEN HEAT INDICES EXCEED 105 DEGREES
FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS AROUND 80. THIS PROLONGED
PERIOD OF EXCESSIVE HEAT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS FOR PERSONS LIVING IN
HOMES WITH LITTLE TO NO VENTILATION OR AIR CONDITIONING. CHILDREN...THE
ELDERLY...AND PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC AILMENTS SUCH AS HEART DISEASE OR HIGH
BLOOD PRESSURE...ARE USUALLY THE FIRST TO SUFFER FROM THE HEAT. HEAT
EXHAUSTION...HEAT CRAMPS... OR IN EXTREME CASES...HEAT STROKE MAY RESULT
FROM PROLONGED EXPOSURE TO THESE CONDITIONS. FRIENDS...RELATIVES...OR
NEIGHBORS SHOULD CHECK ON PEOPLE AT RISK. STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE
REDUCED...ELIMINATED OR RESCHEDULED TO THE COOLEST TIME OF THE DAY. IF
YOU MUST BE OUTSIDE...DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS TO AVOID DEHYDRATION. YOUR
BODY CAN LOSE UP TO A GALLON OF WATER AN HOUR THROUGH PERSPIRATION.
ALCOHOLIC AND CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES OR BEVERAGES WITH A HIGH SUGAR
CONTENT...CAN INCREASE THE RATE OF WATER LOSS IN YOUR BODY...INCREASING
